I own way too many cookbooks, the number will never be disclosed unless I have a lawyer present. When I take the time to leave a review, that means something. So let me say I ADORE THIS COOKBOOK. I stumbled upon her show on amazon prime video and was wondering why I had never heard of Anna Olson - so much time wasted, I wish I had known about her earlier... At any rate, the cookbook is close to perfection - the organization, with three levels of recipes, Simple, Scrumptious, Sensational.. is brilliant. If you watched her show and found yourself writing down quickly the ingredients and amounts to make them later, this book will feel like a gift from Nirvana... Even if you've never seen her show, you'll love the way she explains each recipe very clearly, with beautiful photos, and you won't be able to wait to get to your kitchen to try her concoctions... A real gem of a cookbook!

I am a big fan of Anna olson and following her on youtube. I have tried some of her recipes in this book as majority of these are from her youtube channel. It is worth for me as I had to write down the recipes from her youtube channel.Now I have all of them in already written format and i can refer them anytime, without looking for my diary which keeps missing. The book quality is fairly impressive, pages are not glossy but have decent shine,each recipe is shown with a picture,which is a great deal for a learner like me. I can relate myself with the recipe if I know,how my final product would be like.

I love this book, it has my favorites recipes from Anna Olson. The quality is good, greatly photos and also something that I really like is that has different types of measure.I can't wait to make all the recipes 😊😀😄

I started to follow up Anna Olson because of her TV videos and how easy the recipes look. Well, this book is just an exact replica of her TV/on line recipes, so you do not need to take notes and go back and forth. Easy to follow recipes, great results, beautifully presented. Perfect for those just starting at baking or those with some/lot of experience. Totally recommended. I love this book and Anna. I am mad because her Canadian YouTube videos cannot be viewed in US. What a waste. This would be the perfect combination.

Recipes are very easy to understand. Anna has written this cook book as if shes right beside you talking you through the recipes.I brought this book because i found Anna on the cooking channel on foxtel feeding my baby. I loved the way she cooked and how her kitchen was set out and the way she spoke to the viewers was very engaging.I then found this book and her other ones.I love the big colour photos next to the receipe.I have made classic chocolate chip cookies the classic lemon pound cake which i think tastes nicer than butter cake .Due to baby in home i don't have a lot of spare time but i do plan on making other cakes that i have found.Overall great book. For Beginners on.

This is a vital book for any aspiring mixologist. If you are tired of pursuing cocktail recipes that deliberately include three or more liqueurs that no one is likely to keep in their home bar, or which claim success can only come by purchasing whatever brand of liquor paid the recipe's author, then buy this book immediately.The recipes are simple, classic, and if you have a well-stocked home bar with all the basic spirits, you will find that you can make many more things than you ever thought you could. No more buying $50 worth of stuff you'll never use again to make that Pomegranate Tom CosmoTini or whatever.Vignettes interspersed among the recipes will give you the history of classic cocktails and locations. Thematic organization makes it easy to find, say, party punches, or martinis, without remembering names. The cover and pages are durable, at least somewhat waterproof, and its slimness will let you wedge it between the gin and the whisky.

Cute and useful, but some of the pages are upside down.... clear that the quality isn’t there.

Has cocktails nobody ever orders, and is missing many common cocktails. Not in alphabetical order, and alphabetical index is not the very last part of index, so not convenient to flip to. Arranged strangely. Not a good book if you need to look something up quickly at the bar. Since it doesn't have that many recipes, I figured it would at least have the main/most popular ones, but instead has a bunch I've never even heard of, that nobody ever orders. I have to get a different book.

Bought this as a gift for a friend who has taken up drinking as a hobby. She loves it. Makes a different cocktail every morning. Also small enough to put in your purse or pocket to bring to the bar so you can always have your favorite drink. No more, "I don't know how to make that, how about a tap beer instead" excuse from the local barkeep.

Handy little reference that is lacking some details. While it has a bunch of good mixed drinks, there are places where inaccurate or subjective measurements are used, especially for fresh limes. For a new home user, it would be helpful to have more accurate quantities.

Useful and neatly arranged -- goes well with my much older drink recipe books, with many of the "new" cocktails and most of the older ones. Like most cocktail books, tends to rely on the recipes created by the marketers of various liquors, so there is often a bit too much of the brand name that created the recipe -- so you might try adding a bit less, then taste and add more if needed.

This is a very concise little black book on how to prepare cocktails! The directions are clear and informative. Well made book!

As an introduction to cocktails, this has served me well for the past year or so. I'm starting to reach the limits of the drinks I'm interested in here, but I can't complain: it says it's a "little" book right there in the title. Since I'm still learning the vocabulary of cocktails, I like that the recipes tend toward the basic, with a few variations, except for martinis, which get an entire chapter. The lay-flat spiral binding, heavy-duty cover, and pocket size make it perfect to keep stowed somewhere on your kitchen counter or bar. Great gift for a beginning home bartender. Someone more experienced would prefer a bigger, more sophisticated guide.

For any fan of history, biography, and, of course, James Bond, this is a must read. Loftis presents the story of Dusko Popov, Ian Fleming's model for the character of James Bond. As you read this story, you'll feel as if you are right in the middle of a Bond thriller... except everything here actually happened. I'd heard snippets of the Popov story from other WWII books I'd read, so was aware of who he was and his relationship to Ian Fleming. But that's all that I'd had on him - snippets. This book tells his full story. Loftis' narrative, as mentioned, reads like a Bond novel so you'll never be bogged down and the pace will keep you turning the page. Maybe more interesting than his exploits in WWII is the post-war chapter of his life. This one was well worth the read!

Just fabulous, riveting and quite informative. Hollywood/Ian Fleming could never reproduce even a fictional story that would rival the true life story of Dusko Popov. Simply remarkable was his continued willingness to place himself in among those who would vaporize him in a moment if discovered. Such steely nerves. Book is bit difficult for the first few chapters, but they do lay the ground work for an exciting and captivating 2nd half. Found interesting the information presented regarding the (still) dysfunctional FBI and that truly dangerous/repugnant person: J. Edgar Hoover. Similar to the revelations about Hoover contained in Betty Metzger's book 'The Burglary'; her book on the Media, PA burglary of the local FBI office during the Vietnam protest period. The stark contrast between someone like Dusko Popov and the Brits vs Hoover & the FBI is simply staggering. All that aside, hang in there through the first part of the book, it rewards you as you move on.

This book is really insightful and exceptionally well researched. I take one star because at times it is excruciatingly detailed, and hard to follow. There are some paragraphs where the storyline is so intricate, the actors so diverse (referred by their code names - which keep changing for the same person, given many are double agents with names from both sides) that it's very hard to keep the pace.That said, the author does a very good job at telling the story of this agent, his family, his work during WW2 and the nuances and espionage anecdotes that took place in Europe during the war. The story links very well to key events in the war such as the Japanese' attack on Pearl Harbor and D-Day invasion of Normandy. I won't spoil it, so I will just say it was really amazing to read about Dusko Popov's role and work with the FBI and US officials prior to the US entering the war.

This is a must read! This book has all of the authority and research for the serious scholar. At the same time, Loftis has composed a story with a writing style reserved for truly gifted story tellers. The story of Dusko Popov is as compelling as it is fascinating. Loftis delivers a thriller without compromising historical accuracy. Documented with previously classified materials, Popov’s story demonstrates how truth can be better than fiction. Don't miss the experience and enjoyment of this book! Kudos to Larry Loftis for re-introducing us to one of the unsung heroes of the Allied cause.

My time, like yours, is precious. That said, this book is absolutely worth every minute it takes to read! Wonderfully researched and written! I am a 30 year retired Naval Officer and I found all of the World War II (lead up to the war and during the war) accounts riveting and worthy of a resounding WOW! This is a great idea for a gift and Christmas is not that far off! ;)

Dull. Granular-level minutiae from cover-to-cover. Overblown descriptions of emotions diminish credibility. The author acknowledges a reviewer who helped clarify the plethora of numbers, dates, events, and characters, but he should have asked for another editorial pass because it is a slog through Byzantium.

Did not think this book was that great. Not that the subject matter was not interesting, but the telling was tedious-almost a stream of consciousness of one event, letter and\ or incident without any unifying story line. And the James Bond connection was tenuous and a small part of the book(which was not as advertised).

This book reads like a work of fiction. The REAL true story of Dusko Popov - a spy with such a compelling history will keep you engaged Page after page. The end of chapter leaves you hanging wanting more and more.This book will inspire you to dive deeper into this era of time, the era of true espionage. Larry Loftis does a fantastic job of taking the reader into each setting, all over the globe. The story of Dusko’s interaction with J. Edgar Hoover to me was the most interesting.If you are a fan of WWII novels, espionage, history, or just a thrilling read, this book is for you.

There are numerous English translations and Latin originals of Anselm of Canterbury's major theological and philosophical works available for general reader consumption. However, this newest addition to the already-multitudinous amount of editions allows easy access to all the important writings Anselm produced in his career. In order to fully grasp the convenience of having the works of Anselm easily available to the English reader in one place, it must be pointed out that (to my knowledge) there is not a single volume that brings all his works together, like "Monologion", "Proslogion", "Cur Deus Homo" (don't let the Latin titles scare you; it's all in English), or some of his lesser known writings such as "On Truth", "On the Fall of the Devil", and "On the Procession of the Holy Spirit", and more. Those interested in reading the full spectrum of Anselm's thought have usually been compelled to look for multiple volumes, since a single publication may only contain one or two of the most important of Anselm's works. But now there is a single text (i.e., this one) that enables readers to look at one compendium for Anselm's theological and philosophical speculations in good English translation.Perhaps a plus in the volume is the fact that two excellent scholars, G.R. Evans and Brian Davies, OP, co-edited the compilation of these works into the volume published by Oxford University Press. G.R. Evans lectures and researches at Oxford University, and is well known for work in Medieval Christian philosophy and theology. Brian Davies earned his Ph.D. from King's College in London, and is a reputable expert on Medieval philosophy; he works at Fordham University in New York. Both are very capable and rigorous academians, having equally contributed to the very informative (but not longwinded) introduction to the life of Anselm and the basic content and arguments in his individual works included in this monograph. Similarly, they have included notes on different translations and the original Latin text of Anselm to help the reader and/or scholar.Oxford World's Classics' "Anselm of Canterbury: The Major Works" is a fitting addition to any private or public theological, philosophical, patristics, medieval, or British history library. Instructors of college or graduate-level courses on theology, philosophy, medieval studies, or Anselmian studies would greatly benefit from assigning this text in their courses; it is a fairly inexpensive volume (especially in its paperback edition), but allows students to handle the works of Anselm from one source instead of requiring them to seek them out among a vast amount of translations and publications.

I bought this to read St. Anselm's treatise "Cur Deus Homo" (Why God Became Man) on the recommendation of Fr. Lucas, of the St. John Society. I enjoyed his clear and concise style so much that I quickly went on to read "On the Virgin Conception and Original Sin", followed by On the Procession of the Holy Spirit". I intend to return to this volume as time permits and read his other treatises. Anselm obviously a scholar, with a facile and questioning mind!

Sometimes I wonder if the price was real for such a book. Thanks to the author and thanks to technology. I read a lot about Anselm’s books but now reading the books themselves in one volume. The translation is easy to read and understand. I have recommended it to my class.

"Anselm of Canterbury: The Major Works" from Oxford World's Classics (1998), is one of the most comprehensive English-language collections of the medieval theologian's writings, (See below for two other large collections) At the current price (in September 2012) for the Kindle edition, it is also a fantastic bargain (only slightly higher than some repackaging of older, smaller, or less reliable, collections as Kindle books)Better still, the translators variously responsible for the individual works have given us exceptionally readable versions of his often strikingly original, if sometimes rather repetitive, expositions of central Christian doctrines. The World's Classics volume contains fourteen works by Anselm, and a response to one of his most important writings, which he had asked be included with it when it was copied (along with his own reply, of course). There is a good general introduction, an excellent index (unfortunately not linked in the Kindle edition) and some useful, but minimal, notes. Except for the difficult De Grammatico (on language and logic), there are no headnotes to the individual works. The Select Bibliography is confined to books, but does point out which of them have extensive bibliographies, tacitly acknowledging the large literature in academic journals (aimed at theologians, philosophers, and medievalists).Personally, I have found Anselm one of the most engaging of medieval Christian theologians, and of Christian theologians in general, although I read his works out of curiosity, rather than as part of my personal religious experience.St. Anselm "of Canterbury" (1033-1109) was born to a noble family in Aosta (in what are now the Italian Alps), became a student, monk, teacher, and abbot at the Norman monastery of Bec, and, more than reluctantly, Archbishop of Canterbury in the reigns of William Rufus and Henry I. (Part of a larger pattern of putting clerics from Normandy into key positions, replacing the Anglo-Saxon ecclesiastical hierarchy; Anselm was in his thirties when William of Normandy was conquering England.)Politically, Anselm is most noted for his (almost accidental) involvement in the Investiture Controversy between the Papacy, the Holy Roman Empire, and assorted kingdoms -- a topic which is immediately familiar to students of Church History and of the Middle Ages, and probably not to many others. He also took part in the Council of Bari, an attempt to re-unite the Greek, Orthodox, and Latin, Catholic, Churches. (It failed.)Religiously, Anselm is most famous for the "Proslogion," with its so-called "Ontological Proof of the Existence of God" (which he himself may not have regarded as a proof, but as expression of faith), and for a then-new soteriology (theory of salvation) in the two-part treatise "Cur Deus Homo" (Why God became Man).For the theologically-minded out there, in the latter work he replaced the then-popular Ransom theory of the Crucifixion with the Satisfaction theory -- although the former is still alive, not only, for its narrative possibilities, in C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia," but also as sound doctrine in some preaching I've heard. (Then again, I've heard echoes of several classic heresies in popular sermons, as well.) Either one would need more space to expound than I have here.Within the bounds of orthodoxy -- largely as defined by St. Augustine of Hippo ("The City of God," etc.) -- Anselm was a startlingly original thinker. For example, he produced an extended consideration of the Fall, not of Man, but of Satan, in "De Casu Diaboli," "The Fall of the Devil". This is a topic many people probably assume is "somewhere in the Bible," but isn't. For Anselm, Satan's proper desire to "be like God" in accordance with his own proper nature became a desire to simply "be like God." (Remember the serpent's temptation of Eve?) Echoes of Anselm seem to me to be heard in Satan's self-justification passages in Milton's "Paradise Lost," among other places.Anselm's prose style, although much less intimidating than, say, the endless quotations of authority by his contemporaries, or the syllogisms and demonstrations of the Scholastics who followed him, is sometimes rather heavy. Some point out that Anselm had learned from experience that anything not said as explicitly and as often as possible would give rise to confusions, including accusations of heresy from the easily-alarmed or simply malicious. On the other hand, given his years as a teacher, he may have been following the dictum I learned from my mother: "Tell them what you are going to teach them, teach them, and then tell them what you taught them."As hinted above, there are other extensive collections in print. Slightly fuller is "The Complete Philosophical and Theological Treatises of Anselm of Canterbury," translated by Jasper Hopkins and Herbert Richardson. At this writing, it is still offered by Amazon at, by present-day standards, a remarkably low price for a 574-page academic hardcover. [Note: this is no longer true.] It includes some philosophically interesting "Meditations," but otherwise the contents fully overlap with the World's Classics volume. Published in this form in 2000, it was put together from work done over several decades, and published in other places. Somewhat revised versions of its contents are available, along with articles and bibliographies, as individual PDF files on Jasper Hopkins' website (along with translations of major works by Nicholas of Cusa [1401-1464], Hugh of Balma, and Hugo of Strassburg).I don't find most of the Hopkins-Richardson Anselm translations quite as readable as their counterparts in the Oxford World's Classics volume, but they are more than worth the time of anyone puzzled by passages in other translations (and vice-versa, of course). And the additional material, although not systematic in presentation, is helpful.Another recent collection, "Anselm: Basic Writing," translated by Thomas Williams (Hackett, 2007), contains a dozen well-chosen pieces; since I have not read the volume, I pass this along as a point of information. Hackett is a reliable publisher of philosophy, so it seems a fair guess that the translation is sound, and a glossary of terms looks helpful -- but I have no idea of how readable it is.

A great collection of essays definitely worth reading for anyone who's interested in Christian doctrines.

The language is archaic and the thoughts are hard to follow.

First, I am, and always have been, a big fan of Robert Redford's works, environmental concerns, cultural/Spiritual ideas, and what I perceive to be his politics. Most of the things set forth in this book, I already knew, but I thought I might learn something new, so I downloaded it to my Kindle. I wish I had read the earlier reviews before I took the journey of reading this boring book.Second, the author must have been paid by the word as he compiled as many words as possible; no wonder it took him ten years to write it. To paraphrase one of Redford's quotes, on page 368 (Kindle): "Do we really need to know such a huge amount of detail about the minutiae of every person and event of the lives of every person who ever interacted with Robert Redford?" My answer is NO; we wanted to read about Redford, not every person with whom Redford ever came into contact with.

Born in 1964, I've grown up on Redford's films, and have always been a big fan.While this would be an interesting read for a film student, the author fails to share much in the way of personal anecdotes,Redford's personal belief system, his likes and dislikes, etc. I found this greatly disappointing, as Redford has always impressedme as a very articulate, thoughtful man of great depth. i.e. I want to know what he thinks about a wide range of issues, from religionto politics.Instead, what we get (other than a detailed accounting of his childhood) is one analysis after another of his film and other projects.But is this really the way you get to know someone, or just how they spend their time?Considering that the author spent ten years on this project, with a great deal of time with Redford, his friends and family, I was greatly disappointedto have no more than a greater understanding of what went into his films and Sundance, but never the man himself.

It has to be difficult to write about the life of another person and to cover all the bases. To present someone as mercurial as Robert Redford has to be an especially daunting task. However, this reader was left wanting more about his personal life - his interactions with his wives and his children; his views about the other women and co-workers in his life. His views on his legacy and what he leaves behind. More direct quotes and photos about the different phases of his life, which would have added so much. This is such a talented, interesting, multi-layered person, yet the author, like many biographers, chose to follow the cinematic trail of Redford's life rather than unravel those layers. This book would have been more aptly titled, "The Cinematic Robert Redford." For these efforts, it ranks 4 stars with this reader. The subject may be such a private "mountain man" that we may never see an autobiography. And yet, this reader waits ....

Good biography of Redford, although I felt there was something missing. I felt that the book did not capture the essence of this complicated man. There was something missing re what makes him tick. Perhaps that is because Redford himself is guarded about his privacy which is something I have always respected and admired about him. This is a long and fairly thorough book that apparently had Redford's full cooperation. Ergo, it is safe to assume that this is all the man will allow to be known about him as a person.

I almost never write reviews, usually for really great books I take the time. This is the opposite. This biography is one of the worst I have ever read. And read it I did, til the end. It was facts. names and the business. No heart, no soul. I could not tell you who this man was and is. I kept thinking at some point it has to get past endless dry facts to something human, real.It never did.

We always think the "stars" have it all. This book gives us a view as to the inner struggles of the man. I did start to get bogged down in the details of how each movie was created. I personally recommend watching Bagger Vance and An Unfinished Life neither of which did well at the box office but are worth a watch.

Good book. I always enjoyed Robert Redford's movies, and I was happy to learn more about his early life, his private life, and his other business interests. Particularly enjoyed remembering that famous "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" scene with Paul Newman in "Butch Cassidy."

Good but not great. I think part of the problem - besides it being an official biography, so therefore it's very kind to the subject at hand - is that Redford takes himself and his work very seriously. This, of course, can be a good thing, but it makes him sound a bit pompous and dreary.Still worth a read, though.
