The good news is that if you are a Business Analyst or need to understand the work of business analysis, Podeswa gives you a framework. That is no small thing, and for that, he is to be commended. Whereas the BABOK (Business Analyst Body of Knowledge) gives you a model, Podeswa gives you what you could use as (though he would protest) a method or process for doing this work.Because this is an encyclopedia of techniques and terms, it isn't the most user-friendly book. It has lots of stuff, but most of it is listed alphabetically, not by situation, so you have to know what you are looking for to find it.And then, two beefs with his approach to this work that may not bother others.First, he assumes that Business Analysts will be part of software implementation. I understand that his approach has to account for that, but a large, large portion of my work and people who have done this work for and with me has stopped short of a software implementation. Just process work. Just understanding the problem. Etc. He doesn't offer disclaimer enough for my taste that a Business Analyst may put his/her time to good use serving ends other than software development or implementation.Second, he assumes that decisions happen in meetings. He includes lots of great meeting design templates and checklists. My experience says that meetings are not where real conversations take place. If you wait until that point to look for consensus, you are asking for trouble. The meeting will either make official what has been decided elsewhere or (God help you!) give lip service to the proposal until the REAL discussion happens in the hallway. So a Business Analyst may do all that Podeswa says to set up good meetings--and still not get the commitment to a decision he/she needs.Still, this is a useful addition to your library--for now.

Some of the reviews written on this site are rather odd. It seems some people must have expected this book to be written for entertainment. It isn't a comic book or a love story. It isn't a book you are going to read in a week and miraculously become a Business Analyst.I found the writing to be very clear, explanations well thought out and concise, and the overall composition to be structured in a professional manner. The structure follows the BA's modus operandi making it extremely easy to know which section of the book to turn to for a quick reference.For CBAPs and practitioners you would understand that it follows the BABOK structure. To the layman, consider that part of the title identifies it as a "Handbook".This is a paperback but, physically, it is a big book weighing several pounds. The text is a medium font. I wear reading glasses normally, but they are not necessary with this text. The pages are a non-glossy off white making it easy to read in natural or artificial lighting. I can read this book for several hours with only a minimal amount of eye strain.The Business Analyst's Handbook is a reference. No, it is an Excellent reference. It is detailed with numerous charts, models, and definitions. I am enjoying reading it. But, then, one of my degrees is in Economics and I thouroughly enjoyed reading all of my textbooks in that discipline.Every BA, PMP, and aspiring practioner should have a copy of The Business Analyst's Handbook on their shelf for a quick refresher.

If you've been a BA for a long time and need a reference for other references, it might prove more useful. However, this book was provided as required material for an entry-level college course, and trying to use this book to learn BA concepts made most of us want to tear our eyes out. There is no flow or format, no teaching of concepts or skills. The whole book consists of nothing but tables detailing high-level concepts that are barely explained, and small lists referencing some subject matter that can be found in another source. Reading this book is like reading a bullet-pointed outline for a book that no one ever got around to writing. I got more information and knowledge from the glossary at the end of the book than from any other part of it. This author really puts the ANAL in Analyst...

Have been a BA for more years than I care to acknowledge :) and found this book to be very informative and a great reference. Particularly appreciate the detailed questions to ask stakeholders that have never occurred to me. They say you never know how ignorant you are until you learn something. Well, I've been ignorant and thankfully a more knowledgeable after reading this book. A great tool for any BA.

The book is fair at best. The templates are useless since they are not in electronic format, so you will have to manually type them,The templates are the most important things.Waste of money.

Good book to pick up if you want to brush up, but this is NOT a beginner's book. While it has great information, there is also a bit of jargon.

He then takes from that history the essentials of the chaplaincy skill sets needed to prepare for and practice all aspects of spiritual care. And, he grounds both history and practice in best-practices chaplaincy research allowing the chaplain practitioner to improve their pastoral spiritual skill sets. This clear, comprehensive and compassionate resource book would certainly benefit the candidates preparing for pastoral, chaplaincy and general faith-community ministries. I have found this excellent book to also be a gem when I’ve been asked by family, friends and fellow workers, “What do chaplains bring to the table?” I’ve read many books on Chaplaincy but Dr. Evan’s presents the clearest, most comprehensive and practical advice and guide I have found available in the field.

From one who has been a professional hospice and hospital chaplain for eight years, ordained, holder of a Doctorate of Ministry with four units of Clinical Pastoral Education under my belt, this is very good book on many levels. It lays out the philosophical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of chaplaincy, and adds in enough nuts and bolt to get you through the first couple of units of CPE. It makes clear that chaplaincy and pulpit ministry are light years apart and anyone considering jumping though the many hoops needed to work in clinical settings and be an effective member of a clinical team, would save themselves a ton of time and trouble by first reading this book. And if you have decided to make that leap, this book is a valuable primer for CPE, and once inside this spiritual and emotional boot camp reading this book will help you get through the generally painful process. I once counted writing 27 verbatim in my 16 months of CPE and residency in two hospitals, and this book introduces you to this methodology of analyzing patient visits, using such examples of attending a death in ER, a fetal demise, a patient who talks to Satan and another dealing with a shocking terminal demise, all situations pro chaplains face. It only took me three months to read this, right? No biggie. Not shameful at all. That’s entirely on me as this was an absolutely fantastic book, though I thought there were a few problems.Mainly, I thought the author underestimated herself in conveying emotions. It was a “show, don’t tell” issue in some scenes where a character’s feelings/intentions were displayed very well, but we still had Allyssa put it to words in her head. If those sections had been cut, I wouldn’t have had any problem rating this a full 5 stars. (Goodreads and Amazon don’t let you rate in halves, so I try to do my own ratings accordingly.)The plot:Book #1 ended with an ambush/murder/kidnapping and the action picks right back up. Romance, torture, betrayal, and a tangled web of duties and deceptions. This series continues to have the same feel of the True Reign series whilst being its own and I'm loving it!The characters:Allyssa does some interesting growing, realizing that her responsibilities to her kingdom are much bigger than what she wants. She matures a lot, especially with what she goes through in Russek. It was amazing to see how much she grew, but also sad. No one should have to age 10 years in a few weeks. My poor baby.I really didn’t like Odar in this at all. Even before we get to the twist at the last quarter of the book, I was starting to dislike him. I mean, planning to let the princess of Emperion marry his squire in a deception? What the hell, dude? Never mind the unrenounced, misogynistic bastardry of his homeland, Fren. And the whole “don’t spare my feelings” debacle. Jerk. To be honest, he started irritating me most once Kerdan turned up.I want to marry Kerdan. It’s hard for me to explain why without dissolving into besotted blubbering, but we have a duty-driven badass loved by his soldiers while struggling to do the right thing. How can I not love him? At one point, it was like “Odar who?” Not to mention Kerdan has never actually lied to Allyssa (unlike SOME PEOPLE). I’m sorry, but it’s so freaking true.Soma, Shelene, Jana, and Eliza were just…raw evil. I prefer my evil medium rare or at least blanched, but this is middle YA, so I didn’t count off for that. I’m not sure why, but I found the final scene with Odar and Shelene highly disturbing. Usually, I’m not bothered by violence in books, but…I don’t know. Still, that was probably my favorite scene with any of the step-royals because it was the most humanizing.I’m super excited for book #3 this fall and it looks like my favorite character from the True Reign series will be coming back. YES. Just give me Nathanek and Kerdan bantering for a whole book and I can die happy.

Since the explosive ending for Cage of Deceit, I have been anxiously waiting to find out what would happen to Allyssa and Odar. Rest assured, there is no second book slump in this series. From the beginning moments, Cage of Darkness is action packed and never relents. I couldn't even bother to sleep, staying up late into the night to finish. There are numerous plot twists and alliances are constantly shattered and realigned. Cage of Darkness represents everything I enjoy in a YA fantasy series. "Always remember, you are the leader of your own destiny."Cage of Darkness is darker and more intense than anything I've read from Jennifer Davis. After the initial shock wore off, I was left feeling impressed. Allyssa was a tough heroine in Deceit, but she delivers on an entirely new level. She has to endure countless battles and events throughout, and it only strengthens her resolve. Her chemistry with Odar is as fiery as ever. Despite the violence and more somber feel, there is still plenty of banter and emotional moments. Allyssa continues to develop into a strong leader for her kingdom, and I especially admired her attitude in the closing moments. "I'm not the girl I was before I came here. This place has changed me."I cannot wait for the third installment of this series. All of my ships have sunk and my theories blown to pieces, but I relish truly not knowing what will happen next. If you are a YA fantasy fan, I recommend trying Reign of Secrets.

War with Emperion , 20 years of revenge in the making, Alyssa suffers at the hands of the dungeon torturer, saved by an unlikely enemy, to find freedom in her grasp with the man she has come to love. A unique turn of events make this a slammin darn good read. I cried, I cursed the author....I loved this book!

Oh man what a good book. I don't know how to review without spoilers. I think Prince Odar is the hero of these stories, but I am rooting for a different prince. I didn't mind that Odar lied, but the situation at the castle and the final act was far worse. My hope is that she ends up with another prince. Someone who I have far more respect for. This book keeps you guessing right until the end. Good read!

I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this second book, especially after Alyssa arrived in Russek. But once Kerdan came into the picture I loved the mysteries surrounding him and his motives, and I'm excited to see what happens there with alliances and such. As for Odar? Who knows what I want. Kerdan is much more interesting right now, so fingers crossed the next book meets my expectations.

I enjoyed this second book in the series a bit more than the first. I enjoyed the character representations. I am a stickler for common sense and consistently and a few times throughout the book the writing could have been a little bit better and a little more telling. Definitely worth reading if you read the first book. I will be reading the third,

I hate that book 3 isn't out right now! I have no words at how happy I am at how things ended in this book. Jennifer Anne Davis should win many awards for these two series. They are clean, no cursing, no sex, no magic and very entertaining! Although these cliff hangers are going to give me a heart attack lol. It's soo hard to find books like that, let alone two series that connect to each other. Just simply awesome!

Family secrets. Court secrets. Relationship secrets, oh my! These families make mine seem functional, but never mind that when there are swords, torture and thrones to overthrow.I suggest snacks, a nail file, a friend on speed dial so you can properly rant about the characters you love to hate and plenty of tissues to mop up your heart...
