Cube Kid’s books are so good. Two years ago, when I was nine, I read the first book and I could not stop reading; it was so much fun to read. The excitement and adventure in every book is so nice. It also looks and sounds like a lot of fun. I kind of envy the people in the cast. I hope I get to join them some day! I like the sixth book because of the strange things that happen. It is so much fun to expect one thing and then have something else happen. There is a lot of mob slaying, fun, excitement, adventure, and secrets in this edition of Diary of an Eight-bit warrior. I hope this was helpful.

Got the book on its release date, and my kid has already almost finished it. The verdict? Just as awesome as the prior books in the series, so if you liked those, this one is a winner too.A great addition to the 8-bit series.

Our 8 year old enjoys these books. The only downfall is he reads through them so fast we can’t keel up with ordering them.

This book is Minecraft fan fiction, which definitely has an audience. I have 8 year old and 6 year old so I have listened to some of these books with them and I have read another book by the author “Diary of an 8 bit kitten—lost in the nether”, so I knew what I was in for with these books. If you aren’t familiar with Minecraft you probably won’t like this book and it might not make any sense to you.In this book Runt and his friends have been selected as the best warriors of their village and they are off to represent Villagetown at the Capital. The work together on crafting food items and armor and join in on a battle. Some secret identities and plot lines are revealed, which is exciting for fans. Also, Runt crosses paths with our friend Eebs from the 8-bit kitten books—fans will be excited to see how their stories intersect.This book was good, but it was my first time reading about Runt, whose adventures have been going on for awhile and made it hard to jump in at this point. The plot was a little confusing and I think it would lose younger readers. I think this would be best for readers in grades 3 and up. There are cool Minecraft-style illustrations and the font size changes to stress certain words, which is good for drawing in young readers.Special thanks to Netgalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest opinion.

If you love Minecraft this book will bring you into the world of Minecraft with a vengeance. As the 8th book in the series, this book adds onto the story with similar and different characters that you will love. My daughter loves Minecraft and the main character as well. I think she loves the main character because the main character is a similar age to her. The book has a great quest within it and this quest being forth an adventure that will draw you in from beginning to end! If you loved the other books, you will love this one as well!

This book deserves to be far better known than it is. Though it is specifically about the First Nations peoples of Canada, in the end, it becomes clear that their struggles are everyone's struggles. Most dramatic of all is the story of the Elder who must continue to live in the same house with his unfaithful wife and illegitimate son. The Elder has killed the father of the son, while in a drunken rage. As the years have passed, the son has come to hate the Elder and the wife has too. Yet the Elder has become respected as a wise and reliable voice among his people. Endurance of his plight --his own moral frailty, and the suffering, deserved and undeserved, that it has brought him --has made him into a valued member of the remote village where he lives. The book is chock full of similarly valuable and hard-hitting vignettes and will leave readers of all races in wonder.As a source for detailed information on many aspects of Ojibwe and Cree culture, it also has a very useful place. The accounts of how perception of constellations varies greatly is especially interesting. "Orion The Hunter", for example, was and is for these northern woods dwellers merely part of a much different and larger picture, that of a canoe with two paddlers. Of course, a wonderful story attaches to the canoe, the paddlers, how they got in the sky and where they are going.Hats off to Paulette Jiles. Who cares if so few know and appreciate your accomplishment? In the next world, smiling Ojibwe and Cree people will be greeting you all the time and saying, "Hey, good job!"

In North Spirit, Paulette Jiles has this amazing non-patronizing voice, which at the same time is conscious that she is a white person writing about Indian people who are letting her-this often goofy white person-see herself as a white person watching Indian people and being watched by them. You get the picture. The book is never sentimental or dismissive; the book never stumbles. I love the fact that she can poke fun at herself learning to be a white Indian, as seen through the eyes of her Ojibway and Cree friends and co-workers who help her to help herself in the new environment. I recommend this highly.

Excellent, fun book that takes you on an enlightened journey of one remarkable woman with a great sence of humor and a true love for adventure. Interesting to learn of different cultures and how their primitive ways survived well into the modern age. I highly recommend this book to the adventurous spirit.

Paulette Jiles, the author, an American from Missouri, went to Toronto with a draft dodger in the 1970s. When the boyfriend dumped her, she stayed on in Canada and got a job in Northern Ontario running a community radio station for the Ojibway Indians. She lived in a log cabin, learned their language, and learned how to survive during the long cold northern winters. Later, she became a reporter on the Indian language newspaper, writing about forest fires, crimes of passion, and serious bush plane accidents.Throughout, her love and respect for the Indian peoples shine through her writing as she brings legends and traditions to the printed page. Her quirky personality as well as the world around becomes very real, as does her own inner journey.She is a reporter and describes what she sees. Perhaps that is why not every character she comes into contact with is fully developed. But there are some Indian elders whose stories she captured in just a few short pages.And her descriptions of the danger and excitement of being dependent on tiny bush planes made me feel her anxieties.I thank Ms. Jiles for bringing her experiences to the pages of this book and introducing me to these northern native peoples.

About the Author

Judy Patterson Wright earned her PhD in 1981 in motor learning and motor development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she focused on the learning process for sequential dance skills and how teachers may facilitate that process. She is an accomplished dancer and educator who has taught social dance at the junior high, high school, college, and community levels since 1971. Dr. Wright's dance experience includes tap, jazz, modern, ballet, social, folk, square, country Western, line, and aerobic dance. She specializes in ballroom and social dance in which she has extensive experience as a competitor, coach, author, and instructor. She has taught courses at Walsh College in Ohio, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Richland Community College in Illinois, and the Wright Way Dance Studio, which she co-owns. She has also presented workshops at the state and national levels for the National Dance Association and AAHPERD, the National Teachers Association for Country Western Dance Instructors, and the National Dance Educators Organization. Wright has judged and competed in dance competitions and specializes in teaching progressive classes and workshops for both social and competitive dancers. Wright and her husband placed second overall in the UCWDC Silver Advanced Showcase Division at the world finals in both 1996 and 1997. They are the 2009 UCWDC couples gold combined world champions. They also won first place in both strictly swing and strictly hustle at the 2012 world finals in Orlando, Florida. In a career spanning 23 years as an acquisitions editor for Human Kinetics, Wright created the format for the Steps to Success activity series (of which her book is a part) while acquiring numerous books related to dance and exercise and remaining active in the dance community. This is pretty good idea, but very "wordy" - like they keep giving you a sales pitch - in nearly every paragraph - to keep you interested. We've been dancing for years and were mostly curious to see if they had put lightening in a bottle. Nope. It takes at least a couple of years to become a good dancer, and you'll hear and see or all of this on the way to getting better and better. This won't hurt you, but won't help you an awful lot either. Reading about dancing is nowhere as good as being in a class with a good teacher. As a textbook, this might be OK, but you'll need a class, or, classes for it to really be useful. If you've got twenty extra dollars and are curious - good luck. We'll find someone to give ours to...

I was looking for a dance instruction book with which to refresh some dance steps learned long time ago; this search led me to check out Judy Patterson Wright's Social Dance - Steps to Success (2nd Edition) from the local public library. I was happy enough with this book (with a music CD) and was trying to order the book from Amazon. By sheer luck, I found that there was a third edition, with a DVD. This book and DVD combination is the best value among the many Dance DVD's I have looked at from the local library -- I browsed through about 12 such DVD's.Let me elaborate why I believe this book-DVD-combination is such a fantastic value for me.1. The highly acclaimed book was expanded and brought up to date with new pictures; a couple of additional dance styles as well as expanded chapters (about 100 page additional materials added) make the book itself more than worth the total price;2. The DVD is fantastic -- the demonstrations are clear, attractive, economical in presentation, and contain many more variations for each dance than most other books I have looked at. Male and female separate parts are shown together and therefore eliminated usually boring repeats that eats up unnecessary time. This presentation method represents a clear innovation.3. One of my biggest stumbling block was identifying music and recognizing the underlying beat and matching those with appropriate dance. The instructions and the music CD helped me to overcome this uneasiness for me.I am preparing my retirement and looking for a dancing nights on cruises: with this book and DVD combination, I feel confident that I will be knowledgeable and polished enough to enjoy any and all type of ballroom dances. This is my first review ever on Amazon -- a spontaneous reaction to my gratitude to Judy Patterson Wright and producers of this wonderful book-DVD combination.

I watched the entire dvd and liked the short to the point series of clips for figures of each dance. I was able to go through the dances I was most interested in, and get a good overview in minutes, and then go back and watch each individual figure at my pace. I have been dancing for a few years, so it was easy to follow. A novice to dancing might not be able to digest the info in the fast presentation, but all the info is there on steps, body positioning, leading, following, timing, etc. A great buy!

Social Dance is a great book to learn how to ballroom dance. The instructions are organized very clearly. There are numerous exercises in order to get your muscle memory. My wife and I have really advanced using this book, it really got us off on the "right foot". The book and the DVD complement each other very clearly. If you can't understand something from the text, you can most likely pick it up from the DVD. And if you can't grasp something from the DVD, the book explains the technique very clearly. If you are starting out to dance, or are taking dance lessons and wish to have something to look at when you get home and find you "forgot" most of what the lesson was about; this book can help. I highly recommend it. This book would be a bargain at $100.

JOEL AUGUSTUS ROGERS (September 6, 1880-March 26, 1966) was a Jamaican-American author, journalist, and historian who contributed to the history of Africa and the African diaspora, especially the history of African Americans in the United States. His research spanned the academic fields of history, sociology and anthropology. He challenged prevailing ideas about race, demonstrated the connections between civilizations, and traced African achievements. He was one of the greatest popularizers of African history in the twentieth century. Rogers addresses issues such as the lack of scientific support for the idea of race, the lack of black history being told from a black person's perspective, and the fact of intermarriage and unions among peoples throughout history. A respected historian and gifted lecturer, Rogers was a close personal friend of the Harlem-based intellectual and activist Hubert Harrison. In the 1920s, Rogers worked as a journalist on the Pittsburgh Courier and the Chicago Enterprise, and he served as the first black foreign correspondent from the United States.

It is a great starting point for information on one of the most important subjects facing this country. For many years, I was completely bored with Black History month because the discussion was always on a small number of people. This is an expanded version of that material and is essential not only for Blacks seeking to discover themselves and the amazing accomplishments of the race, but it is essential for others who also are not aware that we have contributed well beyond the knowledge and therefore expectations of most people. Now is the time to join the enlightened people and learn amazing facts that have remained dormant until exposed by the well respected historian J. A. Rogers.

Originally published in 1957, copyright renewed, 1970. White Americans need to read this book. Many of the Amazing Facts are well known to me, especially those from ancient sources that until recently were discounted as legend and myth. The scholarship is impeccable, as everything I have tested, either recently or what was known to me, has been accurate. Mr. Rogers cites his sources clearly. I have read some of his source material, as well as other primary material not cited by him. And of course, 1957 was long before the internet. Research was much more difficult before the internet, the internet just makes it easier.

Very happy to see other black accomplishments besides the ones always noted in February.

This is a Shakespearean Comedy of Manners from before the genre was even really a fully developed thing, featuring love affairs, a revenge plot, some humorous incompetence, a faked death, and much more. I'm not a big comedy fan, but this is certainly a good example of the genre at the time from which it came, and I actually quite enjoyed it. When it comes to the works of Shakespeare as a whole, I would say that this is a less memorable example, but definitely has some positives going for it as well. For one, it's far less well-known than many of his more famous works, so it doesn't feel familiar as you read it. The characters and plot also tend to grow on you, even as the language isn't quite so memorable, and the plotting and mistaken identities aspects are always good plot points, whether you're speaking of today or centuries ago. As to the edition itself, I found it to be greatly helpful in understanding the action in the play. It has a layout which places each page of the play opposite a page of notes, definitions, explanations, and other things needed to understand that page more thoroughly. While I didn't always need it, I was certainly glad to have it whenever I ran into a turn of language that was unfamiliar, and I definitely appreciated the scene-by-scene summaries. Really, if you want to or need to read Shakespeare, an edition such as this is really the way to go, especially until you get more accustomed to it.

Whoever was hired to "translate" from Elizabethan English for these likely doesn't know the Virgin Queen from Elizabeth Bennet. The right page modern language translation usually adds nothing, in many cases is an exact copy, but in a significant number of instances completely misses the meaning of the words and/or line. I suspect that the publisher hired an English major from a minor college, paid them peanuts, and got what they paid for: a lazy, careless translation. In Modern English, "these suck".

The Arden (individual) Shakespeares are the most comprehensive texts available for public consumption. The introduction gives a history of the performance of the play (with photos), the sources used, describes differences between the versions (quarto vs folio), and so much more. My favorite part is that each page has explanations/translations for unfamiliar and archaic terms in the play (I.e. you don’t have to go to the back of the book for an explanation of what “zounds” means). That said, this isn’t my favorite play by Shakespeare, but that is not the book’s fault... I like measure for measure better.

This is a comment about my (purchased) paperback copy of The New Cambridge Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." On the last page it says "Made in the U.S.A, Lexington, KY, 18 April 2018." The Amazon warehouse that usually ships my orders is in Lexington. Did this warehouse actually print this book to order (it arrived April 20), under permission from the Cambridge University Press? I wonder because the printing of the text does not appear to be of the highest quality, as if the press or the printer was low on ink. The pages are not numbered. The still images printed in the introduction are grainy, as if they have been blown up too large.If you are interested in this particular NCS edition, I don't recommend buying it here (at least not for the price I paid, $11.95). It simply has the look of a facsimile.

I'm the parent of a 12 year old girl, and we watched the Kenneth Branagh version of Much Ado, and since my daughter is particularly fond of the Korean form of Manga (called Manwah, I think), we got several Manga versions of Shakespeare's plays. They use Shakespeare's language (not all of it), and are a good "gateway" to reading the plays themselves. The visual style is dramatic and impassioned, which fits well with the emotions for teens. The images remind me of "story board" images used to plan the visual shots for a movie -- therefore, I would say that the images add to the intelligence and thought put into the reading of the play.

There are few films as joyous as Much Ado About Nothing. Much of this joy comes from the beautiful visual shooting of this film and the Italian Villa and estate where the entire story was shot on location.
