I first met Ryan when I attended a presentation that he co-hosted discussing the differences between Baby Boomers and Millennials. His style and knowledge impressed me so much that, when I needed a speaker for a conference, I called Ryan. And now that he has put his knowledge on paper, when I have a question about Millennials, I will reach for this book.Why is this book important? The Millennials are now the largest generational group in the US and in the world. Additionally, when we say â€œMillennial,â€ there are many misconceptions that come to mind of a Gen Xer (like me) or a Baby Boomer. Cute book for young hockey girls

I purchased Ice Rink Rookie as a gift for my niece. She loved it! The book is an inspirational and uplifting story about a young girl overcoming obstacles. Concepts of teamwork and friendship are woven perfectly throughout the story. My niece even gained some concepts about a sport (hockey) that she rarely sees. I love how the author added some discussion questions and other material at the end of the story.

A wonderful read! Ice Rink Rookie has strong themes of perseverance, friendship and teamwork. As a mother of a child with a limb difference, I particularly appreciated how thoughtfully the author brought attention to the challenging and triumphant experiences a child with differences can have. Pilar is a role model of resilience and determination; I hope my kids and all kids grow up seeing more Pilars in books and media around them.

This book was GREAT. If you're looking for an exceptionally well-written, engaging, funny, informative, and thoughtful sports and life story for young to middle age readers, look no further. Ice Rink Rookie is a total page turner. It also deals very sensitively with issues surrounding disabilities. There's a great hockey glossary and discussion section too. Very enjoyable.

I put this book on my baby registry because we want to make sure our half-Indian daughter grows up with books that represent many cultures, including her Indian side. I would be appalled if this became her view of where Dad is from and I'm returning the book. This book gives a very colonial view of a country that is now a global influence in technology and culture and it lacks consistency in the themes it represents. A few examples: B is for British India and N is for New Hollywood (why not say B is for Bollywood since that's what people actually call it?). In addition, Diwali is the only holiday listed, Untouchables the only caste, W is for winners (this just seems weak!). It's like the author didn't even try to know India before slapping a book together. It's pretty enough, but the content is terrible!

As someone born and raised in India I was excited when I found this book, and bought it to share with my daughter who is born and raised in the U.S. Having received and read the book, however, I was appalled and dismayed with the gross generalizations and lack of creativity. India a is such a vibrant and exciting country...to reduce that experience to "B is for British India" was so disappointing. How about B is for bangles or Bengal Tiger...or even Bollywood, which is referred to as 'N is for New Hollywood.' New Hollywood? Really? How about N is for Nehru or N is for Nilgiri or Nagaland? Then there is "U is for Untouchable." Again, there are so many other choices, but the author settled on the cliched lazy one.The artwork is pretty, but completely wasted on this book.

We picked this up for our girls in anticipation of a move to India this summer. I'd hoped it would be an engaging introduction to their new home but neither the girls nor their parents are enjoying this book.First of all the ABC format is really too limiting to give an overview of a country, too many things competing for the common letters, too few for the uncommon ones. In this book Q is quarry, because, um, they quarry a lot of rocks in India.Yeah, OK.Other choces are just not appropriate for children, J is Jawaharlal Nehru, an important figure, but not really someone we need to introduce toddlers to.The illustrations are also too abstract for young readers. The girls simply do not respond to them, the colors are a bit dark and the contrasts are not sharp. As an adult they're fine, but I got this for the girls.If you're looking for an introduction to India, keep looking this is not a good resource.

It was for a Christmas gift I didn't use it.

This is a child's introduction to India. It takes familiar and unfamiliar things that kids can relate to and makes an interesting ABC book. We got it for our grandchildren who are soon to have a new aunt from India.

The pictures look like they are made out of different fabric textures are wonderful to look at. We are teaching our children about India (because there is where their dad is from) and the book a great to help with that.

All,I purchased this book. It is a very simple book with is a good way to related letters of the aphabet back to Indian culture. It is only 27 pages long (1 for each letter of the alphabet), but I thought the illustrations were high quality. The book seems a little flimsy so I would not recommend it as a gift. Indian's tend to value things based on their weight. Low weight sometimes equates to low price/quality.What the book lacks in content makes up for itself in content. Each letter gives you the opportunity to explain the topic to your son/daughter/child in as much or little detail as you want. The illustrations are of good quality. I only gave it four stars because, I would have preferred to have multiple reference for each letter.I would consider buying it for my child's library.

I am a high school student who has taken/is still going to take the SATs. Like most students, my weakest subject is Critcal Reading, then writing. I'm telling you, there's no better book (other than the BB) for CR and writing. I find it to be slightly more challenging than the BB, but so what? Practice hard, ace the test right? Yeah i agree with the other reviewers that there are seldom incorrect explanations, but that's common in every book. In my opinion, I think the explanations themselves are really in-depth and understandable, which is what you would want in an SAT book. I can't say anything for the Math section, as I usually skip them (I just take practice sections, not tests with these), because I have done well on the Math. Plus, McGraw-Hill uses white (as in white like this page) paper, which is a nice contrast to Barron's or princeton review, which usually has a more yellowish-color to it, so McGraw-Hill is better on the eyes. If you're a student looking to improve CR and Writing, look no further; this is your answer (other than BB).

I bought this book to get prepared for the upcoming SAT exam.After soliving the first three practice exams from the book, I realized thatthe style and the levels for each sections were different.Especially for the math section, the questions were unnecessarily hard when compared with the actual exam and the collegeboard edition of SAT prep book.Questions for reading were easier than the actual exam as a total, but the section itself was not as horrible as the math section.Writing seemed to be the only section worth solving.I strongly recommend this book used for additional practice only, but surely not the only book used to prepare for the SAT exam.

This book is a complete solution for SAT. There are 12 tests in the book and they are difficult enough to test out the students' knowledge. I am a private tutor and I ask my student to buy this one. I highly recommend it.

Another good book for SAT preparation. I have already recommended this to my friends whose children are preparing for SAT.

It was a little bent by the shipping package, but nothing to really worry about. A little obnoxious writing in the book too, but over, good.

Just similar to other SAT past papers, this one is pretty useful for practicing SAT. Those explanations are clear and they do help a lots.

My son's high school asked us to get this book for class. I have found this book to be a great source of practice tests that will prepare him for the upcoming SAT tests.

Great Tahoe Brooke.

Very beautiful photography in this large, very heavy book. I love how it spent a considerable portion on the Indigenous people of the Lake Tahoe area. Very informative.

Beautiful book. The exhibit that inspired this collection was stunning and the book captures that beauty and grandeur. Any Lake Tahoe or Sierra Navada fan should be inspired by this collection.

Visiting the Nevada State Art Museum to see the exhibit I perused the book as well and decided to get a copy for my library, it is a wonderful collection of historical art of the era.

Lake Tahoe is truly one of the most breathtaking locations on the face of the earth. It is only natural that writers would attempt to convey some sense of that majesty between the covers of a book. This most recent coffee-table pictorial is no exception. This book is not your standard contemporary collection of photography but rather a chronicle of the history of the area as seen through the eyes of the artists whoâ€™ve tried to capture that beauty. There are plenty of photographic images to be sure, but they are mostly vintage views that help the reader get some sense of the Lakeâ€™s history.The paintings and woodcuts selected for this volume were well chosen and as good a collection as one is likely to find in any book on the subject. The obligatory examples of more contemporary art at the tail end are not nearly as impressive but fortunately donâ€™t take up too many of the book's pages.I canâ€™t really comment on the text in its entirety as I have yet to read the book from cover to cover. And as the text is a secondary consideration in pictorial books I am commenting on my first impressions after a cursory read. That being said, what I have read seems to be well informed and of benefit to the illustrations.This is a well produced volume and the images are all high definition. All the elements are there to offer any reader an enjoyable browsing experience. For someone living in the Tahoe region or who may have a vacation residence in the vicinity this would make an excellent addition to that stack on your coffee-table.My only criticism is the amount of space set aside for the regionâ€™s Indian basketry. Over a hundred pages of the book are devoted to this subject. The baskets Ms. Wolfe has chosen to highlight are no doubt exceptional but it doesnâ€™t seem, at least in this reviewer's opinion, to dovetail well with the bookâ€™s principle theme. There is ample enough material here to have produced a separate book. And for those whose interest is the lake alone, they would probably have preferred it that way.I donâ€™t want to knock off a full star for the above complaint but I think it should be noted none the less. Overall, I think this a book anyone with an interest in Tahoe would appreciate. And, if in addition to a love of Lake Tahoe you are passionate about Native American basketry you will have really hit the jackpot!

A thorough and detailed history of this treasured region of California told through the great naturalists, painters and photographers who have documented it over generations.

Raven transforms himself into a pine needle so that he will be consumed by the chief's daughter as she drinks from the stream. He then is born a boy. Gradually the boy's doting grandfather allows him to play with each box in turn. First raven releases the stars, then the moon, and finally he returns to his former shape to fly up the smoke hole of the lodge with the third box. The story is fast moving with its magical transformations, and the language is simple and direct. The illustrations are dramatically shaded watercolor and acrylic drawings full of Native American detail and design. Many of them play with various reflections of light. Particularly effective are the scenes depicting the transformations and those in the lodge. Reborn as the chief's grandson, he whines, cajoles, and throws tantrums until the indulgent old man hands over the heavenly bodies. After escaping through a sooty smoke-hole with the sun, Raven's feathers are permanently black. Watts's paintings, with the enthroned chief clad in heavy Chilkat ceremonial robes and surrounded by carved boxes and other evidence of wealth, are at odds with Dixon's light touch. The powerful, stylized animal motifs of Northwest Coastal art, seen by bright firelight, seem an integral part of the vibrantly colored natural world--more so than the clownish human figures, which add little to the story save some exaggerated gestures and grimaces. I just finished Farnsworth's Classical English Rhetoric--also a great book--and I got an email reminder from Amazon that I could write a review of this one. I bought the book on the strength of Farnsworth's guest blogging at Volokh Conspiracy, and was glad I did. Before encountering the blog posts and the book, I would have said that restitution was merely a kind of remedy, occasionally useful in contract disputes and even more rarely in tort cases of conversion. As Farnsworth points out, that is one way that the term "restitution" is used. But that is not the point of the book. Instead, it turns out that the restitution that the book is about is a whole separate category of causes of action on a par with torts and contracts. It turns out I had encountered restitution in this sense in law school classes on torts and on contracts, where there were glances at "unjust enrichment" and "quasi-contract" and "promissory estoppel", but with no comprehensive treatment, or even any recognition that it might be possible to discuss restitution as anything other than a kind of exception to the normal proper way of doing things. As with the Rhetoric book, this one on Restitution divides the subject matter into categories based on the intended effect to be achieved; illustrated with plenty of examples.

Although I am not a lawyer, I am so glad that Mr. Farnsworth wrote this book. Other texts are very philosophical; this book is filled with practical examples illuminating a wide variety of transactions. I literally could not put it down! The legal cases brought in were very apropos. There is a lot of depth here; it will be worth reading & re-reading. Thank you Mr. Farnsworth!
